I don’t know about you, but it has been so hot here in Kansas the past week or so. You might have even seen the news about all the cattle we lost here due to the heatwave. It’s been terribly sad and hard on our farmers and ranchers. Anyway, we’ve been stuck inside a lot, too, because unless you are swimming or playing in water, it’s just way too hot to go outside for very long periods of time.
One activity I recommend if you are stuck inside with a toddler or preschooler (I used to do this with my girls…and also with my nieces when they were smaller) is stuff it” bottles. This is almost a comically simple activity, but it’s SO good for helping increase fine motor skills. It gets those hands and fingers working.
Here’s what you need:
- Clean, empty plastic drink bottle (preferably with a little wider mouth)
- Pom poms or paper
Here’s what you do:
Have your child put the pom poms in the container. If you are using paper, you can have your child tear smaller pieces and crumble them up…and then stick them in the bottle.
Dump out the bottle. Start over.
And on and on, ad infinitum. 🙂
